It all started in summer 2017 when we discovered the first bamboo dental hygiene products. We were immediately fascinated by the idea of creating everyday products without plastic and in an environmentally friendly way. Bamboo is a renewable resource, a robust and fast-growing plant that doesn't need pesticides or fertilisers. It seemed like a perfect alternative to plastic!

And what could be more everyday than a toothbrush? The average person uses four to six toothbrushes a year. Replacing the handle with a biodegradable material avoids the production of tonnes of plastic that would eventually end up in oceans and landfill sites.

So we started by looking for a factory capable of producing toothbrushes of excellent quality. Once we found one, we spent a year producing our bamboo toothbrushes. They were perfect, except for one detail: they were produced in China, where Moso bamboo grows. This meant long import journeys and a high carbon footprint.

So we wondered about the real environmental benefits of outsourcing the production of this raw material. Could we do even better? So the idea of a local toothbrush was born. We wanted to make an everyday product in an environmentally-friendly way, but we wanted to go even further.

So we started looking for alternatives in Switzerland, and in 2018 our choice fell on a local factory that is well established in the dental care sector. Producing toothbrushes in Switzerland using Swiss wood was just perfect! We had a local, environmentally-friendly product from A to Z.

That's when Letizia joined the team Liebwerk. Passionate about ecology, with great ideas and speaking three Swiss national languages, she is the perfect addition to Liebwerk. Today, Lars is responsible for production, Alem is in charge of marketing and Letizia is a sales representative. Between the three of us, we pursue the spirit of Liebwerk, which means "working with love", but also "created with love". We put all our heart and energy into our toothbrushes to offer you the best possible product.
